a simple lifestyle blog
As it is Friday, the most glorious day of the week and the end to the work week, I would like to celebrate with all of you by sharing some of my FAVORITE things.
The amazing Richard Linklater (School of Rock / Waking Life) brings us this “cultural time capsule” (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone) depicting the life of Mason (Ellar Coltrane) as he navigates the struggles of adolescence with his parents, played by Patricia Arquette (Medium / Lost Highway) and Ethan Hawke (Dead Poets Society / Reality Bites). This was filmed over the course of TWELVE YEARS. You literally watch this kid grow from a six-year old riding bikes with his friends to an 18-year-old in college.
I can’t put into words the impact this film has had on me, but here’s one of my favorite quotes from it:
“You know how everyone’s always saying ‘seize the moment’? I don’t know, I’m kind of thinking it’s the other way around, you know, like the moment seizes us.”
TUNES: Hero by Family of the Year
Ok, this is from Boyhood too. What can I say? I’m obsessed.
This song is so addicting its like
Chances are, you may have heard this song before, BUT if you haven’t, YOU’RE WELCOME.
If you have, I am giving you the chance now to remember how good it is and binge-play it all day. YOU’RE WELCOME.
EATS: Lemon Pepper Chicken
Guys, this chicken is IT.
Stop doing whatever you are doing to chicken and do THIS.
My only couple of modifications are this: You don’t have to marinate the meat for two hours. Its actually been proven that marinating anything longer than 45 minutes does not affect the flavor in the end. Thanks, Mythbusters.
Also, don’t cook chicken in a skillet. BLEH. Stick it in a casserole dish of some sort and broil it.
I used four chicken thighs (way cheaper) for this recipe and just stuck them in the glass baking dish after spraying it with some cooking oil and put them under the broiler for about 6-7 minutes per side.
SO JUICY and flavorful!
With this wisdom, I send you off into your weekend.
Until next week, cheers!
